Contemporary mindfulness is a secular practice used extensively in the field of psychological intervention and as part of many wellbeing initiatives. Mindfulness offers tools for people to find a calm centre from which to meet the challenges of daily life. In the school context, mindfulness can help teachers support students to be ready for learning.
Research over 30 years shows that mindfulness has many benefits including:
strengthening the brain circuitry that allows us to focus, take in new information and reduce emotional surges
building neural strength and capacity for caring relationships and empathy
improving mood and alleviating depression as well as reducing the likelihood of recurring episodes
protecting against the effects of stress.
Regular mindfulness practice in young people has been shown to improve emotional and behavioural regulation, frustration tolerance, and increasing the ability to pay attention. In students with learning disabilities, mindfulness has been shown to lower anxiety and improve social skills.
Our mindfulness training programs can help you experience these many benefits as you learn how to:
practice mindfulness meditation
understand and respond to distraction
build wellbeing through a balance of healthy mind practices
build compassion for yourself and others.
Wellbeing EDvantage is also an accredited trainer with Smiling Mind, an Australian not-for-profit that works with schools, workplaces, and communities to deliver the benefits of mindfulness with the aim of helping every mind to thrive.
